Iron (non-haem) measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as iron deficiency anaemia, hemochromatosis and chronic renal disease. The assay for serum iron concentrations in cases of acute toxicity is available on contact with the laboratory (bleep 1150). Please note: the ferritin assay is recommended for assessment of iron status.
Iron is not available on haemolysed samples.
