MRSA Screening Swabs

MRSA Screening
Nose and groin BTM (Bacterial Transport Medium) swabs should be collected where practicable.  For best recovery the cotton swabs should be pre-moistened with sterile saline.

A single swab can be used for both nares and another for both axillae of individual patients.

Swabs should also be collected from any wounds and catheter\line insertion sites.

CSU should be sent from catheterised patients, and sputum from patients with a productive cough.
