Under certain circumstances specimens can be processed rapidly if results are required more urgently than the routine turnaround times. The case should be discussed with a pathologist or an appropriate senior member of  the technical staff. 
 
All urgent specimens should be sent directly to the Cellular Pathology department by passing the routine collection process.   
 
The time the report is required should be clearly indicated on the request form.
