Salicylate is a common drug used in many formulations due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Salicylate overdose can cause metabolic acidosis with a high anionic gap, gastrointestinal and central nervous system disturbances, as well as encephalopathy and renal failure. The assessment of plasma levels are indicated when an overdose is suspected.
