LDL is used in the risk stratification for future CVD events LDL is used with other parameters such as HDL and total cholesterol in calculations such as the Framingham CVD risk rating.

LDL is a calculated parameter from total cholesterol, TGs and HDL. The TGs must be below 4.5 mmol/L for the calculation to be viable and the sample should be fasting. See individual assays for methodological interferences.

This test may require the patient to be in a fasting state. For a fasting state the patient should refrain from any foods or liquids other than water for 8hrs.
