Urgent Samples
The majority of Immunology tests are not deemed urgent. The exception is the investigation of Vasculitis, Goodpastures Disease (anti-GBM disease) and Functional Complement assays.
Clinicians requesting an urgent ANCA (anti-MPO/anti-PR3) or anti-GBM must telephone the laboratory in advance on x 8454.
For Functional Complement assays (CH50, AP50 Functional C1 inhibitor) clinicians must telephone the laboratory in advance of the sample being taken. The sample must be separated and frozen within 1 hour of venesection. This assay is referred to Addenbrooke’s Immunology by special courier.
Same day results can only be guaranteed if the sample is received within the Laboratory before 2pm. As there is no on-call service in Immunology assays will be done as soon as is feasibly possible or referred as necessary.
Any other tests required sooner than the turn around time can be discussed with the Immunology Lead Scientist.
