Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT)

Used in the investigation of patients with symptoms of colorectal cancer. FIT can be used to rule out significant disease and also to guide fast track referral. See information for GPs below.
There are no known methodological interferences. The matrix of faeces samples can sometimes be inconsistent, which can give results which vary in reproducibility between patient samples. For further information please contact the laboratory.
A FIT with a value of <10ng/g faeces is a negative result. If FIT is negative and there is no anaemia the risk of cancer is less than 1% (see information for GPs).
